Month End Coupon Printing and Organization

It is here again- the end of the month!!!  I am not sure where the time has gone but that is what the calendar says!  Of course, don't take my word for it....you can check your calendar too. Remember to print coupons because some go away at the end of the month....also remember to check back in a few days and see what new ones have appeared!!

Check the following sites:
This is a good time to remind you to clean out all of the expired coupons and put them in the recycle bin!!  I try to remember to clean out my coupon basket but I usually end up going to the store and realizing that so many are expired that I can't find the ones that I am looking for before I get organized.  Make sure that you get cleaned up so that you can find the coupons you need to save money!!  I love to do this a few days before the end of the month to make sure that I don't miss using any that might expire at the end of the month.

This is a good way to make sure you don't miss printing a coupon!!  Keep this list for next month too because the new coupons are normally loaded at the beginning of the month so it is a great time to go back and check.  Please let me know if there are any other coupon websites that you like to visit and I will gladly add them to the list.  Hope you all had a wonderful month and I look forward to hearing all about it!!!

Super Doubles is almost over so it is time to grab Cheese Its!!

I went with my son after a morning at the park.  He enjoyed his cookies while I tried to stay organized.  Here is what I got on this trip.  My free list is Ella's fruit pouch, three So Delicious Yogurt, three think thin bars, and six Yakisoba noodles.  I decided to get a package of corn tortillas for my husband because they were on sale for $1 which is a great price.  I got two of the Ricotta cheese for $0.50 each since I had only gotten one so far this super doubles.  They are good until the summer too which should give me no excuse to make some lasagna with them so I passed up the frozen lasagna.

I promised that I would stock up on Cheese Its because they are $1.50 after sale and coupon which is the best price we have seen in a long time.  I only got two the other day so I grabbed the coupon limit which is 3 coupons and got 6 boxes.

My biggest purchase which I was putting off was the Tide.  My buy price for the small containers was $5 and the big containers at $10.  I haven't bought it in a long time because CVS doesn't carry the small Tide Free HD anymore and that is usually where I find the best deal.  If you can believe it, I have no back up and I am getting low on the bottle that I am currently using.  It was on my February to buy list so here is hoping that since I got it $10.49 that I don't find the best deal in the world tomorrow!

Total Retail $79.19
Total Savings $61.47
Total OOP $17.72

I did a return for something that I bought that I thought I had the evic zvr coupon and I didn't so I got money back on my card and took the money off the total.  I can't believe that there is only one day left and there is no toilet paper in stock!!!  I am going to a different store tomorrow after exercise class to see what they have and crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

More Harris Teeter Super Double Joy!!

I took another trip to Harris Teeter today with another new couponer.  I was excited to get some of the great deals going and make sure that I got all of the ones that were still on my list before the sales were over.  I got the free Yakisoba noodles, free Campbell's soup, free Liberte Yogurt, free ham with coupons that I found that were about to expire!! I grabbed two nail polishes which would be free but at check out, they told me that the coupons expired yesterday.  UGH!  My mom would have liked them but better luck next time.  I got one more So Delicious Yogurt but put it back when I had too many coupons.

I grabbed the Gillette moneymaker which I thought that I had used during another deal but looked again and saw that I still had my evic zvr coupon.  I was also really excited to finally remember those coupons which were in my box at home for things that I was going to sell on ebay!!!  I also grabbed three of the Oscar Mayer Protein packs which were also moneymakers after the meat coupon and the manufacturers coupon.  Both deals gave me an extra $2.50 so I was off to find some deals that would cost some more money so that I would still be in the positive when the total came in.

I grabbed my three toilet papers which would be enough to cover the difference and I found a clearance pork chops which would be $1.42 after sale and coupon.  I decided to trade the one yogurt for two boxes of Cheese Its because my husband would be sad if I didn't get at least a few during the sale.

Total Retail $62.70
Total Savings $57.18
Total OOP $5.52

After putting everything in the car, I did grab two oatmeal which had a peelie to get them for a good stock up price only using one more coupon.  I had to clean up the cupboard when I got home to fit them all in.  We now have 9 boxes of dinosaur oatmeal and way more (maybe 13) of my husband's Perfect Portions Oatmeal.  I hope that we are all set for the summer time because oatmeal is much more expensive in the summer months and less coupons out there for them.

Total Retail $7.17

Menu Plan Monday 2/24

Monday- Shake n Bake Pork Chops with stuffing
Tuesday- Chicken Cacciatore with pasta (from McCormick Recipe Inspirations)
Wednesday- Pizza Grilled Cheese or Cheesy Garlic Pizza Bites with homemade pizza sauce
Thursday- Herb Butter Roasted Chicken with herb rice
Friday- Olive Oil Pasta with garlic bread
Saturday-Leftovers/French Dip Sloppy Joe on homemade rolls
Sunday-  Leftovers/Frozen Pizza or Breakfast for Dinner

Last week the meal plan went pretty well and we just switched most of the day so there are lots of scribbles where the old plan was to write what we actually had on that night.  There is one night that we scratched off some pasta to eat leftovers.  The fridge was pretty full with lots of them and we got to have a lot of yummy things and fill the dishwasher to run that night so that there weren't too many dishes to clean up.  After a long week, it was the perfect meal.  How did your week go?

Monday is going to be pork chops which were just added to the menu because I got them super cheap at the store so we are having those with some stuffing.  I can't decide whether I am going to make the stuffing from scratch or use the one remaining box of stove top that I have in the cupboard but I think that I also have some frozen stuffing so I guess there are lots of choices.

I am going to make another McCormick Recipe Inspiration on Tuesday which is the day that I have most time this week so hopefully I will be able to read the recipe before and try it out.  I think that most of the things that I have made from the recipes cards.  We have liked all of the recipes that we have tried from them so I am sure that this will be no exception.  It is just finding the uninterrupted time to make a new recipe that takes the time!  I should have it posted sometime soon too!

How does your week look? Have you looked at the calendar to see that it was the end of the month again!!  Where did the month go?  Well, good news is that I did a great job getting through the month with the things that we had in the house which really helps me to stay under budget (currently around $107 with two more planned shopping trips).

Weekly Goals 2/23

I can't believe how quickly this week went by and how much I actually fit into it.  I had a lot of things planned already this week and then super doubles came up.  I worked as hard as I could to get myself ready and keep myself ready through the week without having a mess and I think that I did a good job since I wanted to be a good example for all of my friends learning to coupon with me!  I got to work two days at my son's school which was exhausting but fun and now I am headed to bed early to get a good nights sleep.  I hope that you had a great week as well and another great week planned next week!

Last week:

Family Goals
  • Spend time with family - We had a great week together which ended in Daddy's Dad at the school so my husband took my son to see his school and talk to the teachers and then to the Bring Your Own Wheels event at the school afterwards.  I even got an extra break which I wasn't sure what to do with because they went to Lowes so I got busy on the computer with my amazingly silent house.
  • Playdate with friends after school (another mom and I are switching days picking the kids up from school so we get one day with no kids for most of the day and then another where the kids entertain each other so it is the best of both worlds)- We got to have the friend over to our house this week and the two played together really well and didn't want to be done when it was time to leave.
Personal Goals
  • Cut coupons from this week- I cut my coupons a little early this week because I was set to be prepared for the super doubles at Harris Teeter.  I cleaned out all of my expired coupons and then I got everything printed, filed and a list made.  It was super organized woman and I don't know where she came from.
  • Get coupons on Friday or Saturday- I checked three places and the local paper doesn't seem to have the coupons this week so I didn't get any :(  Bad news no coupons, good news is no cutting.
  • Shut off computer 6 nights to save energy- I shut off the computer every day that we were gone from the house and every night before it was time to go to sleep.
  • Finally back to Jazzercise- HAHA!!!  I got called to sub and instead of saying no and going to exercise, I said yes and went to work.  I was going to go on Saturday morning but I decided do a couponing thing and should have moved it earlier but with so many things going on, I didn't know which way was up.  It didn't happen this week!
  • Go to Lakeshore Learning Teacher class- I wanted to go last month and didn't make it because when it got that late in the day, I forgot.  I signed up for the one next month too so hopefully I will remember.
  • Sub two days-  I went in two days and had lots of fun doing the Olympics with the little ones.
  • Work on posting to ebay- This take a lot of time but I think that am doing better now with the coupons that I am choosing to sell and managing my time.  I got a bunch up and it is almost the end of the month so I have a few more open spots to use this month and a few more coupons that I would like to get up. Currently a little under $35 in profit for the month and hope to get a little more in to be around $45 to $50.  It is a lot of work and I tend to wonder if it is worth this much work to make $40 which I can make in one morning subbing at school but I am making a profit off of no investment so I am going to keep at it until I am out of stamps that I bought at the $0.46 rate and then re-evaluate.
  • Start Wild book (true story which is going to be made into a movie soon)- I wanted to start it but the first time I picked it up was bedtime and I wasn't sure if it would be a good bedtime book based on the content so I read another book in the pile first and finished it and started this book.  It actually has barely talked about being on a mountain or in the wilderness yet so I don't know how it is going to be but it is a good story so far.
Home Management Goals
  • Clean dishes, counters and floors at least 5 days of the week- I did pretty good cleaning the dishes all week.  There was one night where I should have run the dishwasher before I went to bed and I totally forgot so there was a little back up the next day when I was over filled but I found room for lots more things and had a jammed packed full dishwasher so it all worked out fine.
  • Clean dishes one night and not wait until the morning- I did this early in the week one night and my husband did it another night and I got them all done on Friday night because we decided to have leftovers which saves on dishes that don't go into the dishwasher.
Blog Goals
  • Post one post everyday (schedule 7 posts so that can spend more time with family) - Got lots of posts up and scheduled ahead of time which gave me the time to do all of the other things that I had on my long list of to dos.
  • Review book reviews completed during the week (if done)- Review should be up soon.
  • Work on a few posts to work ahead for the coming week- Not nearly what I wanted to get done this week but I got the rough draft of a ton of them and I am going to try to get some scheduled late on Saturday (many of the rough drafts finished and posted) and work on some new posts on Sunday.  I think that I have a good rough schedule for the rest of the month.
  • Post Sunday Weekly Goals, Menu Plan Monday, Kid Wednesday and Thrifty Thursday Tip- I got them up and posted ahead of time which was good because it was a busy week with out a lot of time for me to get them done.
This week:

Third Trip to Harris Teeter Super Doubles!!

I didn't know exactly what I was going for but I was prepared.  I filled more printed coupons and had lots of lists and I was ready to go but lots of things were empty the other day so I wasn't sure what to be ready with.  I went in and the store had stock of things!!!

First stop was the deli meat area to see if they still had a few of the clearance Oscar Mayer protein packs and they had two with a $1 sticker.  With the store meat coupon and the manufacturer coupon, those were a money maker.  I grabbed the free noodles and the free Healthy Request Campbell's soup first.

I went to get the Quaker instant oatmeal for my son which I got on my Friday evic special for $1.87 limit 2.  I had a $0.75/2 coupon to use and then I saw an end display with peelies for $1/2 and I used that and it doubled!!!  Super bonus because that means that I got them for $0.87 each!!!!!

Then found lots of things missing from the shelves that I wanted to get.  I rushed to get the toilet paper which after coupon and sale was $0.99 or $0.25 per roll and I didn't want to miss it.  I am super excited to stock up on toilet paper because we are running super low and that is another thing that I hate to pay high prices.  Then I found Jen who I was supposed to be meeting at the store this morning with her cart already full.  We went a little through the store.

Jen and I went back to the deli meat so that I could show her the Oscar Mayer Protein packs with the meat stickers.  I also showed her my rain check for Davidson Eggs and my coupons so that they would be $1 each to prove that getting rain checks was a good thing because the coupons and super doubles always come around again so best be prepared.  We were down to one egg at home so I was excited to get that.  Then, I showed her the pork coupon that I just printed and there was a 2 lb pork roast on sale clearance for $3.00 per pound and after coupon, I got it for $3.94.  I put it straight into the freezer when I got home so that I could make it when my parents came to visit.

We remembered that we needed to get the Jiffy corn mix which was a freebie after the money back to saving star.  Then we were off to get the milk on special for $2.87 Saturday only.  I grabbed my four Liberte yogurts that were on my Friday evic special for $0.77 each which was free after the coupon doubled.  Jen had the Quaker Crunchy Oats in her cart but then got a deal for fruit when she bought fig newtons so she had too many coupons so she shared the last box left in the whole store with me (free after facebook coupon)!!  Wasn't that nice?

Total Retail $72.22
Total Savings $58.10
Total OOP $14.12

I forgot to get my rain checks at the end because of all of the excitement shopping with a friend but I am sure that they will have more things in tomorrow and I will try to remember my rain checks tomorrow.

Cinnamon Coffee Cake

I was looking for something fun to make for breakfast after cleaning out the fridge on a Saturday morning.  I decided I wanted to something cinnamon-y and I was trying to use up the creamer in the fridge without using too many of my remaining eggs.  I was going to make my Sour Cream Pound Cake and put it in loaf pans which is still really tasty but it would use 4 of my 5 eggs so I would be done with baking for the day.

I searched and found this recipe that I saved ages ago that was waiting to be made.  I had all the ingredients and it only took one egg.  Score!!  It looked good and having everything in the house is a big plus.

I started by mixing the topping in a small bowl.  I didn't know exactly how much room it would take up but I wanted something that was going to fit in the empty space in the dishwasher to ease clean up.  It fit the topping well and fit in the dishwasher great!  I added the dry ingredients and mixed them up

Then I added the butter to the mix.

I mixed with a fork smooshing all of the ingredients into the butter.  It was pretty easy to do with just using the fork to push the mixture against the side of the bowl.  It doesn't have to be perfect but the more uniform the mixture, the more uniform the topping on the coffee cake.

Next was time for the batter.  I was trying to decide between doing it by hand and doing it in the mixer but I opted for the easy way with the mixer.  I put the dry ingredients in the mixer and put the mixer on the slowest speed.  Mine is pretty fast even on the slow setting so some of the flour came out but I used my hands to cover.

I added the stick of butter and mixed.  The mixer did a great job of getting an even crumb through the mixture without too much effort.

I measured the coffee creamer and added the egg so that all the liquid ingredients would be ready to add together.  I didn't even blend but you could easily mix them up quickly.

Then, I added the wet ingredients to the mixer and it mixed to the thick batter.

The recipe said to use a 9 x 13 pan so I took it out and greased it with the butter wrapper that I used in the recipe.  This is a super easy and frugal step.  If I use a whole stick of butter and don't have to grease anything, I fold it and put it in the baggie in the freezer.  I have a huge package so that I can grease at any time now.

I added the batter to the pan and spread it around.  As I was spreading, I was thinking that I didn't have enough batter for this big pan and next time I might have to use a smaller pan. (stay tuned for why that was wrong).

Then, I added the topping and spread it out across the whole thing.  It was pretty even and pretty well mixed up.

Boy was I wrong about needing a smaller pan!  This cake puffed up really big and I got to have a nice big coffee cake and filled the whole pan.

My family loved it and we all ate so much that it delayed lunch a little.  It was that good!!  Even though my son first said that he wouldn't eat it because he didn't like coffee.  UGH!  So then comes the reason why it is called coffee cake even though no one in our house drinks coffee.  Here is one of the first slices that we took out of the pan when it was still hot.

It was amazing and gone by the next day.  My son said that meant that I needed to make more.  I told him that meant we ate too much :)  It will be on the menu plan again soon and I hope that you add it to your list because it is amazingly simple and tasty.  The best news is that it doesn't use brown sugar and only one egg so super easy to pull together with things around the house.  Don't forget to check out this recipe where I found it which promised that it was the best coffee cake and I can't disagree!

Cinnamon Coffee Cake

Ingredients

Cake
2 cups all-purpose flour
¾ cup white sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsalted butter
1 egg
¾ cup creamer (or milk and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract)

Topping
¼ cup all-purpose flour
⅔ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ cup butter

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease 9×13 pan.

In a medium bowl mix topping dry ingredients ¼ cup of flour, sugar, cinnamon. Add in butter.  Use fork, pastry blender or clean hand and mix together until it becomes coarse crumbles and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl add flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add butter and blend (can do by hand but I used mixer) and mix together the mixture until it becomes coarse crumbles. In small measuring cup, measure creamer.  Add egg to creamer. Then, pour the wet mix into the dry and blend. You will have a thick batter.

Spread batter into greased pan and top with crumble topping.

Bake for 25 – 30 minutes.
