September Month End Budget Wrap Up

I knew when I did my middle of the month wrap up that I was destined for a low month because I had only done the first two shopping trips and that is really low for the month.  Things have been too busy to actually even make it to the store and coupon.  It is sad when that is the case because I do end up missing a bunch of great deals in the process but it makes the totals much lower.  As my husband pointed out, it means less food too!!!  I also haven't been cooking as much as I should have the second half of the month.

Aldi $35.58- $0.85= $34.73

Enjoyed most of this food already with the exception of the darn Ricotta cheese because I thought that I was making lasagna and I didn't have enough noodles to make it so I have to add that to the list of things that I need because Aldi's only carries it seasonally and it must not be the season yet :(

Harris Teeter $0

I got these on a weekend freebie and we were already right by the store for soccer so it was a perfect run in and out score!

Aldi $12.45

I went back to Aldi to look for the lasagna noodles which they didn't have and pick up a few more essentials including the banana sale which is why I was mostly there.

Harris Teeter $4.04

There was a sale on flour for $1.97 per bag limit 2 which I knew from history included the bread flour so I grabbed it because I was nearly out and it was a good deal.  The Cranberry Ginger Ale and Bai were on an email for me to get for free.  My son picked out the ginger ale and I picked out the Bai because he wanted another one.  I loved the black cherry flavor and if it wasn't so expensive, this would be a favorite!!  YUM!

Harris Teeter $22.46

So long story but we went and did the previous trip as a family on Saturday but got a little confused at the store... the sugar was $1.47 in the ad instead of $0.97 which it said in my ad.  The soda was $3.50 instead of $1.77 in my ad so we didn't get any on Saturday.  We realized that the store in the flyer that I got in the paper was just another branch so we went there and got two transactions with 4 soda and 4 sugar which was the limit of both.  It was a huge savings and this store is actually closer to the house but not in the direction we are normally heading so I guess I will have to check it out because if there is lower pricing, it will have to be the way that I go!!!

Harris Teeter $18.64

I was going to go back to the new Harris Teeter but I needed gas and it is way more expensive that way so I headed to get gas and to my old store.  Turned out that there was an even better deal then I expected.  I had a electronic savings to get 4 boxes of granola bars for $1.77 so I knew that I was getting that but there was another deal on the shelf pictured below so I ended up getting way more then I was thinking because the coupons for $1/3 also expired on September 30th!!!  I also grabbed a few Tabasco bottle from a catalina that printed at the check out one of the last few trips.  We don't use it normally but I am sure that I will figure out how to for a free bottle :)

It turned out great with a store tag that wasn't even advertised!! Where I could buy two and get another one free but it was a limit of one per transaction.  I only did three transactions but that means that I got a lot of great deals which averaged out to $1.24 per box of granola bars which is way better then the $2.89 shelf price!!

Total Retail $217.09
Total Savings $124.77
Total OOP $92.32

I know that there are a ton of things that I didn't get and even more that I really need to get but I know with the busy end of the month that it is going to be October before I get too much more.  Here is hoping that I get lots of deals after going through all my expired coupons to clean up my coupon basket a lot and cutting all of the new coupons except they are always coming in so I will be behind soon enough anyway.  My first list for next month is tissues, lasagna noodles, Parmesan cheese, milk, and turkey lunch meat...but the list is quickly growing! Here is hoping that I find some great deals next month!

How did your month go??

  1. You spent less than $100 for the whole month and that included sodas and granola bars, all expensive things! Wonderful.

    1. I did get a lot of things but not a lot of the basics that I needed at the end of the month. I am not sure where that month went but it was over too fast. I was trying to force my trip into the store when I didn't have enough time to do it at the end of September but I have already been to the store a few times in October to make up for it.

    1. YEAH!!! Glad your month went well and that you were under budget. It always helps to feel like you are starting off the next month on the right foot. I grabbed a bunch of deals and I was sorry that I didn't make it to the store to get a few more of the granola bar deals but there just wasn't enough time... they will easily be eaten by my granola monster :)

  3. It is always so interesting to see what your weekend Freebies are? We don't get those here, so I look forward to hearing about yours. It has been a very long time since I have had any free groceries. Does your eating-out budget come out of your food budget or is it separate?

    1. I don't know why we get a few Saturday freebies each week now but I missed this weekends because it was so busy and I just couldn't drag myself out at the end of a tiring day but I love mixing coupons and sales to get other great deals!! I do the dining out budget separate and there is a post coming soon about our dining out for the whole year because I just started tracking it after a disaster total in August!! Stay tuned for those numbers :)
