August Shopping is Started

I have started a little of the grocery shopping this month.  I am going to try to get out and get some deals so that my family stops complaining that we have no food.  We really do have food but without enough time to shop or bake, they don't have exactly what they want.

Aldi $9.11

I went to the store because Nathalie told me to...only kidding.  I went to her blog and saw eggs were on sale for $0.79 and the ad here said that they were on sale here too.  The bananas were $0.29 per lb and the carrots were $0.49 for the bag.  I got excited because they lowered the price of the turkey lunch meat but then the sign didn't have the updated price on the shelf so I didn't want to grab two and find out that it wasn't really lowered but luckily it was!!

Harris Teeter $10.35- $0.50 cash back= $9.85

I was pretty excited that we got our act together and went to the local yard sale first thing this morning.  I dropped the boys off at the house before going to the grocery store.  I was ready with coupons and a list...although I wasn't sure if there was going to be stock.  I grabbed everything on the list and got to move things around a little with the coupons that I had available.

I got two packages of turkey bacon because they were free after printable coupon.  I don't think that I am a fan but I can make a meal out of free meat easily.  The toaster strudel was $0.17 and I should get a $0.50 back from Saving Star so if it works out then I have a money maker.  The Cheez-Its were $0.97 after I bought the coupons from Kelloggs Family Rewards website.  The Jif peanut butter was on sale for $1.47 and I had no coupons!!  WHAT?!  The Dawn dish detergent was on sale for $0.99 and there was a coupon for $0.25 that doubled so they were $0.49 so I decided to get two to fill the stockpile.  I grabbed two snickers which were supposed to be free but they were shelf price of $1.25 so they were $0.25 after printable coupon.

There was a deal on cereal including only Raisin Bran and Frosted Mini Wheats for $1.97 limit 4. The picture below only showed the regular ones but the ozs were written there so I ended up getting a mix of cereal.  One of the regular Raisin Brans, one of the Cranberry Raisin Bran, and two Harvest Mini Wheats.  I used three $0.50 coupons and one $0.40 coupon so it was $3.80 off plus $1.00/2 electronic coupon so I got 4 boxes for $3.08 so it was $0.77 per box. Sadly, the best deal that I have gotten recently and they are all cereal that I like and not any for the rest of the family.

I turned in $0.25 rebate for the carrots and got it already from the Aldi's trip.
I turned in a few rebates for the Harris Teeter shopping trip including $0.25 for Breakfast Cereal from Ibotta and $0.20 for Mobi Save for the bacon and dish soap.

I am also expecting $0.50 from Saving Star for the Toasted Pastry but those take around a month to process usually!! So total rebates with $1.20 when everything is approved but I don't count that out of the budget since we use that money for other things like online purchases for Target, Home Depot and others to lower those budgets.

Total OOP $18.96

  1. Thanks for the shout-out! You did great, Alison. I always buy that turkey bacon when it's super cheap so I have several packages in the freezer, but it's not optimal to cook with. I might have to use that instead of real bacon in my potato salad tomorrow and that will make Greg sad.

And I also buy cereal (mini wheats!) that no one else likes (well, my son and Greg like them but I make sure to keep them awash in Lucky Charms and homemade Grape Nuts and I hide mine, lol!).

    1. I made some turkey bacon. It smelled like hot dogs (which I hate) when I took it out of the package but it cooked up pretty well and made a tasty sandwich on some homemade bread for a weekend lunch. I burnt it a little but it made it taste like normal bacon without being so salty so it was good. I hope Greg doesn't notice the difference :)

There hasn't been a lot of sales on cereal and I haven't been at the store but I used to only get cereal at $0.25-$0.50 per box so paying $1 has been hard for me because my son and husband will finish off a box in a few days. Sadly, I am going to have to suck it up and buy some for them soon. We are almost out of granola bars too which I was hoping would last until September but I don't think that I am going to make it!!!
