Shop on Blossom Street Book Review

The Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber was the first in the series from the book that I read last month Hannah's list.  I decided that it was a good place to start the series and it really was!  It was about a group of women who were learning to knit and changing their lives at the same time.

Each chapter is from the point of view of a different person:

Lydia, the cancer survivor shop owner
Alix, the drug convicted rebel with purple hair
Carol, the IVF challenged hopeful mom
Jacqueline, the unhappily married older woman

All of the characters meet in the yarn shop owned by Lydia to take a knitting class to learn how to knit a baby blanket.  The great part about this book is that you get to hear every one's take on their situation, as well as on the others.  You end up falling in love with all the characters as they learn to grow and change.  Lydia starts dating and finds out that she has another brain tumor but decides that she doesn't want to fight since her father isn't there to help her.  Alix is taking the class in order to do community service for a drug conviction that wasn't even her drugs.  Carol has quit her job as a high powered executive to stay home to try to become pregnant with her last round of IVF so she decided that knitting a baby blanket was going to help her get pregnant.  Jacqueline found out that she is going to be a grandmother and in order to prove that she cares about her daughter in law and is going to be a good grandmother, she has decided to knit a baby blanket.  All of the characters grow and change in the book and it is amazing to see it all unfold.  I highly recommend reading it!!!

I hope that you check out this book and others in the series.  I am super glad that I came upon this author with a free book that I got previously, Hannah's list.  I decided to start at the beginning of the series.  I hope that you check out one from your local library or bookstore.  I look forward to getting any review of the series that you have tried out :)
