Someone's in the Kitchen with Mommy : 100 Easy Recipes and Fun Crafts for Parents and Kids by Elaine Magee looked like a interesting book to start the summer off with my son.
I was looking into a whole bunch of summer classes for my son this summer and I didn't see anything that was really interesting but I did get an idea. There was a course for learning to cook. Although I think that a 45 minute class in the kitchen with a boy that doesn't like to eat might sound like torture, I thought that maybe it would be easier to try something at home first (and a little cheaper)!! Not sure if it will work but I am going to try at least one time.
I read through this book and I found some interesting ideas and some good recipes. I wrote notes on 31 recipes but I think everyone will find different recipes that peak their interest. I like the pumpkin bagels, chocolate dipped pretzels, and carrot cake Easter baskets. There are other ideas to help remind you how to entertain your kids while eating like making ants out of peanut butter with pretzel legs and dirt pudding with gummy worms. All ideas to get kids to make and enjoy food is always good in my book!!!
My only negative is that the recipes call for egg substitute. I understand that the author is trying to make these recipes more "healthy" for kids but I don't know why all the recipes use egg replacements and not real eggs. I think that it is a much better idea to teach kids where our food comes with and using more natural ingredients. I will probably use real eggs instead of the way the recipe is written but it provides the options.
If you think that you might be interested in trying some fun in the kitchen with the kids, please feel free to check this book out at your local library or bookstore. I think that there are some interesting ideas that the kids will really like :)
