Giant Shopping Trip 5/1

I am super excited that the first Tuesday of the month is at the very beginning of the month because I get my Giant rewards for participating in their online community.  I love this program!!!  I get to go on their website and tell them all my opinions (I have lots of opinions on everything) and then they give me $10 for all my activities from the previous month.  I go to the store and get lots of groceries for my family.  This month I was excited to see the deal on cranberry juice for my husband matched with the new coupon to get a Cherry drink free.

Well, as often happens, I get to the store and the regular Cranberry juice was not included in the sale.  I was determined to use the $10 credit and get the things that I needed instead of turning around and heading for the next store.  I got 12 packages of ham, 2 Special K Cracker Chips, 2 Special K Granola Bars, 2 Ortega powder, 2 Q-tips, Hillshire Farm Turkey, Batteries for a toy for my son and a loaf of bread.

Mistake #1- I went to self check out.  I thought that they started taking the new coupon scan code but I was wrong.

Mistake #2-  I got transferred to customer service and they couldn't figure out how to add the coupons and subtracted everything... and then we were finally at the end and I asked for the bag credit.  All promotions were removed.

Mistake #3-  The customer service person said that I had to take everything back out of my self-checked bags and put it on her counter... but she was going to help the other four people in line first because I was going to take too much time.  I went and got the self-scanner again and started scanning everything.  The customer service person said that I didn't have to do that but I told her that I might as well while I was waiting for her.

Mistake #4-  I went to the only check out lane open since there were still four more people to help at customer service.  The lady looked at me like I had two heads and then the manager came over with a calculator.  The line got huge behind me so then he transferred me back to customer service.  She helped two more people before he could use the register.

Mistake #5-  He tried the calculator again and messed it up twice.  He came up with $16.08 (how would anything end with $0.08???).  He handed me the calculator to figure out how much I thought I should get off my order!  Then he gave up and asked if $17 sounded good.  Are you kidding?

I was at the store for over an hour and it took only a few minutes to get the groceries!!!  I got home and added up how much I should have gotten in coupons and bag credits and it was $18.05. I actually got $18 so it worked out close but nothing for loosing an hour of my life.

I think that I am going to call customer service tomorrow because in addition to the horrible story above, the manager told me that in the future, he can't accept the internet coupons because they can't scan them and I could just photocopy them and he wouldn't know.  I told him that they all had unique codes written on them and he told me that he couldn't see it and dismissed me.  I was exhausted so I wasn't going to stand there and explain how I wasn't a person breaking the law but I was getting more and more upset.  Best time to exit before I said something as mean as he said to me.

I got all the above groceries for $3.40 so at least it wasn't a total loss but I guess I won't be rushing back anytime soon.  I know why weaker stomachs give up at couponing!!!
