I found this book when I was searching on the library website of different books that they had available. I read one of Jonni McCoy's other books and really enjoyed it so I was excited to see what this book held in store. Miserly Meals: Healthy, Tasty Recipes Under 75¢ per Serving by Jonni McCoy was mainly listed as a cookbook. I thought what could it hurt to look at another cookbook because more recipes is always better!!
I don't know if you know this about me but I have a cookbook problem. I love to look at them and I barely ever use them. I am really trying to turn this around by trying a new recipe a week. I thought that if the recipes were cheap and easy that I might actually try them.
I read the book and wrote a list of 53 recipes that I might try (that is how I read a cookbook with a pen and paper in the other hand). I am going to look through the list again and see they are really anything new or just a slight variation on some recipes that I already have because I read the whole book and still didn't feel excited about the book. How are you not excited about a book when you found 53 recipes that you might make? After thinking about the list last night, I think that I came up with issue with the book- the recipes are really basic recipes and nothing really exciting. If you don't already have a zucchini bread recipe, maybe Jonni's recipe is perfect for you. If you want a recipe on baked buffalo wings or salsa, this might be the right book for you. I guess I really was really looking for something new and different and I don't think that this book fits the bill.
If you really don't have any recipes and are just starting your personal cookbook, this might be a good book for you. If not, check it out of the library and see if any of the recipes catch your eye. I hope to hear what you think about it and whether you are going to check out some of the recipes.
This does look like a good book. I am trying to put a cost to the meals I make and post on my blog to give everyone a perspective of how much I spend on a meal to feed all of us.
