Birthday Fun!

My husband's birthday was today (SHHH, don't tell him that I told you because he never tells anyone).  This morning my son colored a picture that said Happy Birthday for daddy before he left for work.  Shortly after, my son went running to the cabinet and declared that we had to make cake.  He pulled out a box of funfetti and said that was the "good one".  I told him that he had to go to school in the morning but we would make it in the afternoon.  After school, we made the funfetti and added a little extra "fetti"  (also known as sprinkles).  My son stuck his finger in the batter and said.... umm that's good.  We poured it in the pan and he licked the fork and asked me to take pictures of him making the cake.

This evening, we had a special beef and snow pea stir fry which was super yummy!  Then my husband opened presents, okay my son opened them all but it is the thought that counts.  Then we brought out the cake which my son decorated with sprinkles (half on the counter and half on the cake).  My son and husband blew out the candles and we had some cake.  All in all as good as a birthday can be when you work most of the day.

I mixed up some yummy cinnamon rolls for breakfast because I figured that we would make it a fun birthday weekend surprise.  They were the same ones that I made for Christmas here.  These turned out much better with the dough actually rising after my working on the recipe last time.  Cinnamon rolls are my husband's favorite breakfast treat (okay, everytime treat) so I think that he will be really surprised in the morning.  Aunt Lynn is going to play with the little man in the morning (hopefully at the park but it just started pouring again so who knows) so that we can get some stuff done around the house.  Then we are going to have a yummy lunch with some chicken that Aunt Lynn brought with her and maybe hamburgers!  Still working on good ideas for the rest of the weekend.  Hopefully it will make for a great weekend for the birthday boy :)
