The Story of Arthur Truluv Book Review

I didn't know anything about this book but it was on the list of new releases and I like the author a lot!  The Story of Arthur Truluv: A Novel by Elizabeth Berg was a mystery to me and I was super excited when it came in at the library.  I had to put it off with a few other books that needed to be read and returned but I was so happy when I finally got to it!!

For the past six months, Arthur Moses’s days have looked the same: He tends to his rose garden and to Gordon, his cat, then rides the bus to the cemetery to visit his beloved late wife for lunch. The last thing Arthur would imagine is for one unlikely encounter to utterly transform his life.  Eighteen-year-old Maddy Harris is an introspective girl who visits the cemetery to escape the other kids at school. One afternoon she joins Arthur—a gesture that begins a surprising friendship between two lonely souls. Moved by Arthur’s kindness and devotion, Maddy gives him the nickname “Truluv.” As Arthur’s neighbor Lucille moves into their orbit, the unlikely trio band together and, through heartache and hardships, help one another rediscover their own potential to start anew.

I thought this was great writing and a wonderful heartwarming story!  I was immediately in love with all of the characters.  Arthur was going to the cemetery every day to visit his dead wife.  He felt that it was going to have lunch with her and felt at peace when he was there.  He also stopped to talk to the other people and started to feel a real connection to all of them.  One day he meets Maddy who is sitting under a tree in the cemetery instead of being in school.  They become friends and are linked by their losses and tough things going on in their life.  The amazing things happen when they support each other and become better friends but you have to pick up the book and see what happens for yourself.  I promise you will love this heartwarming story!!!  It was wonderful to read and sad when it was over.
