First Day of Super Doubles Excitement at Harris Teeter!!

I have the busiest week this week yet and of course, it is super doubles!!  AHHHH, I wish that I could plan my schedule around these sales but we barely know until it is upon us. My husband took a few days off this week and I am super glad because I wouldn't have been able to make it through otherwise.  He has been taking my little man to school in the morning so that I could make it to work without being late which is super good because it was picture days and other things that I needed to be early for work which I wouldn't have made if I had to drop my son off.  Also great because I signed him up for his monthly Magic Tree House book club which I now can't take him to because I have to do the attendance at the after school enrichment program.  Dad to the rescue for the little man.

Did I tell you that I have a problem saying yes and signing up for too many things??  I went to work at 8:30 am and worked until noon today.  That left enough time to run to super doubles quickly and drop everything off at home to go in the freezer before running to school to stuff envelopes for the kids Tuesday folders (those of you who don't have those at your school, they are a folder of all of the kids papers from the previous week so that the parents don't get mashed up papers in the bottom of the kids bags every day which are stuffed by parent volunteers). After stuffing the folders which took me an hour, I had enough time to make it into the library to find out what they needed help with because I signed up to do that too.  Then, I went to grab the kids to go to Zumba after school (along with my own child) and did all of my requirements for the one class and went home to do our family homework assignment of a family quilt square while cooking dinner.  I can't keep this up but hopefully this means that I get a nice night sleep tonight.

I got four free Barber chicken, Kame Udon Noodles, Kame Spicy Stir Fry Sauce, and three boxes of Barilla Pronto pasta.

I got the Land O Frost Roast Beef (shelf price $3.79) after sale and coupon $1.90 to make yummy grilled roast beef sandwiches on homemade rolls with melted jack cheese and horseradish mustard YUM!

I got a bottle of Franks Red Hot Wings sauce (shelf price $3.49) for $0.94 after sale and coupon.  There was a Ibotta rebate for $0.20 additional savings.

I got the Melt Coconut Oil butter for $0.29 after sale and coupon which is perfect for cooking and baking in case you haven't tried it yet.

I got two Cabot Cheese which I forgot to use my rain check but it was on sale for $2.50 and I got two coupons for $0.50 from the festival last weekend so they were $1.50 each.  Cheaper then Aldi's so still a good deal but could have saved another $1 with my rain check if I had my act together :(

I got a bag of Picsweet edamame that was on sale for half off so it was $0.94 but I didn't have any coupons but I thought it was still a good price and there was a $0.20 Ibotta rebate.

I picked up six Chobani Yogurt which were each $1.20 (shelf price $7.20).  After sales and coupons, I got them for $3.20 or $0.53 each which is more then I would normally pay for yogurt but I got caught up in the rebate money.  I got $1.00 for buying 2 of the Simply 100, and $0.75 for 2 of the Limited Edition, and $0.20 for any yogurt, and additional $0.50 for redeeming both so they are all $0.95 or $0.16 each.  I think that is a pretty good deal and I am excited to try cinnamon pear, pumpkin, and raspberry lemonade.

I grabbed four whole chickens because they were on sale for $0.89 per pound so they were all 5 or 6 pounds so they were $5 or under.

Total Retail $94.14
Total Savings $69.48
Total OOP $24.66

Total Ibotta Rebate $2.85

I spent more then I thought I would but I got to use my $3 off of $15 coupon and get lots of savings.  I think that I also got overage on one one of my coupons to cover a little more of the cost.  I need to get organized to shop like crazy again soon but I am not sure when I have enough time to go back....Ugh!  All this working is getting in the way of my shopping.    What do you think?

  1. Is it weird that I have a big smile on my face and in my head I was cheering you on as I was reading down your post, as if I was at a cross country meet?! LOL. I love living vicariously through your Super Doubles recaps :) Are you kidding me? 4 chickens AND a whole bunch of other stuff and you only paid $24 OOP?! That was an excellent price on the yogurt too. And I like the idea of roast beef melts, I might have to get roast beef next time there is a good sale down here.

Way to go, Alison! You're the champ!

Otherwise, your schedule right now is crazy and very familiar to what I had to do when I had all the kids at home. I was always on the go, go, go and used to tell my husband I really couldn't be called a homemaker or stay at home mom because I was never home. You could sustain it but you'd be exhausted and would need lots of help at home, that's for sure. I look back on those days and marvel that I was able to accomplish so much. Maybe this is why I can't seem to do the dishes every night nowadays... my body is still recuperating? LOL. I used to do the "Tuesday folders" too (although ours were "Friday folders") and help in the classroom, chaperon on field trips, volunteer at the school library, attend all the games and concerts and award ceremonies (good grief we NEVER had one award ceremony when I was growing up, much less 3 or 4 per year per kid at the very least all through high school and then we wonder why this generation is so navel-gazing!).

What do you do for Zumba? Tell me you're not teaching it too! LOL.

Thanks for taking the time to type all of this up on top of everything else. I'm so glad you started shopping again. It's like a really good TV show :)

    1. Love that you were cheering for me! I do feel like we are old friends who just haven't seen each other in awhile so I feel that way when I am reading your blog too. I should have put the link to the roast beef sandwiches there but here it is: http://novafrugalfamily.blogspot.com/2013/06/grilled-roast-beef-sandwiches.html

Zumba is one of the after school enrichment classes for the kids that I have to get all the kids to and find out if anyone is missing. Today was Lego Robotics. There are some pretty cool things that kids get to do in these classes. My son's starts on Monday and he is going Structural Engineer (with legos I think). Luckily, I just do attendance and there is no teaching there so I get to head home at 4:30 or so when all the kids are in the class.

I felt like my tired feelings really went straight to the post this time. I slept like a rock and only had a few minute of reading last night so it was obviously a lot in one day. I just wish that there were more chances to make it to super doubles this week but unless I figure out how to make two of me then I think that I will be able to go on Friday and maybe one more day. I better get more organized :)

    2. Thanks for the recipe! I hope roast beef is on sale soon so I can try them. I'm so hungry after seeing your pictures, hahaha. I think I'll just mix horseradish with mustard instead of buying the special horseradish mustard, though.

    3. :) We don't have horseradish so tell me after you do it what the ratio looks like :)

  3. I know that being a Stay At Home Mom isn't easy, but holy cow.....this is crazy. How are you able to get anything done at home? When I was working full-time and drove the long commute, I was able to ask for time off occasionally. *laugh*

Fantastic shopping deals! Was this shopping trip strictly sales and coupons? Do you have a shopping needs list for later in the week, or by just shopping the bargains, are you able to fill the holes in your pantry?

    1. When my little guy was a newborn, I was working full time and watching him full time. My husband would take off the day if I had a mandatory meeting in the office and we called that our time off. The time at the office was the vacation because being at home was way more work :)

I usually only do shopping for sales and coupons to stock up on the stuff that is the cheapest. I have a lean budget to get things so I don't normally have a weekly list anymore because I get whatever is cheap. There are some things that I get when we are out of them but for the most part I wait until I can get the best possible deal and grab lots. This has caused a little bit of trouble since we recently moved and used up lots of the stockpile but my family knows that the items won't be replaced until they are super cheap. Luckily I have a lot of great deals and tons of stores (if I choose to try) to get our food at without traveling very far because we are in a highly populated area.
