April Budget Review

We had a busy month with two weeks being up in New York and then coming home.  I have some shopping trips before we left, some while we were in New York and the shopping trips when we returned.  We did not take pictures of the groceries we bought when we were in New York, mostly because my husband was in charge of going and I just wrote the list.  My husband isn't the shopper in the family but is really good at following the list (as long as there are lots of details).  My cousin and I were working at my aunt's office so he took a trip to get some things at Aldi's.

I get one trip a month to Giant with a $10 credit earned from being part of the Giant online community and I also earned $25 in gift certificates that I used to pay the overage of a little under $3.  I got these two packages of chicken for free and I am cutting and freezing the chicken to use in the coming months.

The month started and ended strong with lots of freebies from Harris Teeter.  Here are the pictures of what I got from Harris Teeter this month:

There were two trips to Target and two trips to Aldi's but there weren't a lot of pictures because we were out of town and out of routine.

Total Retail $474.12
Total Savings $395.71
Total OOP $78.41

We got lots of pasta and rice that was stocked up that we will likely be using in the coming months.  I know that there are already lots in the cupboard but I will make the most of what we have including the yummy granola bars.  I can't wait to try the hazelnut creamer.  I have already used the plain one in coffee cake and a loaf of bread so I know that it works as good as milk and allows me not to add any extra expense to our meals.  I am thinking about trying a batch of pancakes with the creamer as well.  Do you use coffee creamer in your house for anything other than coffee??

  1. Alison, What a great month of shopping, I never tire of reading about great frugal shopping trips. Great job! Can you explain to me how you got a $10 credit for being a part of Giant online community? Is this Giant or Giant Eagle? We only have Giant where I am. Thanks for sharing, have a great week!

    1. It is Giant (Stop and Shop). I got an email from Giant asking if I wanted to be a member and I signed up. It was the easiest process but I think that it was all luck that got me a member. I signed up and I do surveys and discussion groups a few times a month and then I get a credit at the beginning of each month. It is pretty cool and I suggest that everyone make sure that they have their email updated just in case they get chosen!! It is well worth the few times a month to share my opinion.
