Plantation Book Review

Plantation: A Lowcountry Tale by Dorothea Benton Frank was next in the series that I was reading.  I decided that I should check it out of the library.  I grabbed it once when I was at the library with my son since it was luckily right by the children's section.  I didn't realize that the compact book was almost 600 pages until I got it home.

In this story, Caroline Wimbley Levine had a big fight with her mother after the death of her father and they never repaired the damage.  She is called by her brother to put her mother in an assisted living facility because she needs more help then she can get at home.  Not believing that it could be try, Caroline travels home to find out the real story.  She has an adventurous week getting back in touch with all things from her childhood from her family to the town.  It is a great story that always has you wondering what she is going to find next and what her family is going to do.  She leaves the South Carolina town to head home to New York City and her husband and son.  She gets home to an empty house and listens to the answering machine.  There is a message that shocks her into action!  She finds out the truth that she has been denying for years, that she is not happy in her marriage or living in the city.  She takes her son home to South Carolina and the adventure is only just starting.  I hope that you check out what happens next!!!

I really enjoyed the book and even stayed up to read it late last night.  It seemed like it should just keep going and going but it was a great story and the best ending for the book.  It was a heartwarming story about learning what is most important in your life.  Sometimes we get into habits and we don't give them another thought but making decisions to be happy are always a good idea.  I hope that you make the decision to do what makes you happy!!  I also hope that you read this book and check out the series by Dorothea Benton Frank.  Pick it up at your local library or bookstore and let me know what you think.
