Kid Math: Math-terpieces

Math-terpieces: The Art of Problem-Solving by Greg Tang seemed to be really interesting when I was looking at in the library but it wasn't as big a hit at home.  I don't know if you have checked it out but I would like to know if your kids liked this one.  It integrates math and art with famous art work and addition.
The book had a picture on the left page and on the right there was math problems where you needed to add the things to get to a certain number.  The adding had little to do with the number in the picture so there wasn't a lot to tie it back except that the picture had umbrellas and then you had to add umbrellas on the other page.  The pictures were really great but the words under them weren't really a story so it was a little confusing to read directly from what they wrote because some of the information was in circles or other things around the page.
It is worth getting at the library to expose your children to famous art work and interactive math.  I think that it is probably best for a little bit older child (mine is only four but he loves adding).  He was really caught up on Monet and how it ended with a T so I was pronouncing it wrong.  I tried to explain that it was French and it was pronounced a little different but he wasn't buying it! I hope that your kid finds this one to be interesting and expands their knowledge a little bit with the introduction of famous art work.

  2. I love books with math! I haven't checked this one out, and my little one is only two, so he probably isn't ready for it, so I'll have to get back to you on that ;) Thanks for linking into the KLBH!
