I haven't actually made my own baby wipes yet but I have been pretty close between deals with the recipe in my back pocket. It is a great deal to make your own because you probably have the stuff already at home.
We love to use Pampers Thick Sensitive Wipes but we don't like the Pampers container... we like the Huggies container.
I know that this sounds crazy but we used to get the Pampers refill and re-use the Huggies container (better top and prettier pictures). Make sure you save a few containers from both until you decide which container you like better. Plus, we use the old wipe containers to hold toys- cars, blocks, and playdough toys. But a great idea is to save a few containers and make your own wipe.
1. Cut a roll of paper towels in half and remove the cardboard roll. It is best if you use the nice paper towels like Extra Soft Bounty or Viva since they are super soft for the baby :)
2. Mix 2 cups water, 1 Tbsp. baby oil, and 1 Tbsp. baby wash in a large enough bowl (or seal-able tupperware/rubbermaid container) to fit the cut roll.
3. Soak the roll in the solution and flip to soak other side if using a bowl (or shake solution in sealed container) Some recipes suggest soaking directly in the baby wipe container but others say it is too messy. I think that this is one that will take the most work to get the easiest method for your own needs.
4. Put roll into wipe container or rip paper towels apart and put in wipe container (if you think that you are going to rip them apart, it might be easier to do when dry and pour the solution directly in the wipe container over the folded towels).
I think that a lot of this is a trial and error and what works best for you and your family (and what you have around the house).
Currently, I made money on buying 12 containers of baby wipes so we are set for a long time (hopefully through potty training and only using for hand wipes) but if not, I am going to be making some since I have all the ingredients already on hand. I wish that I had made some early on when my son was really young but I never heard of making homemade wipes. I hope that passing these on to another mom who could use them before they get to the potty training phase or at least in a pinch so that you don't have to rush to the store :)
