We Bought a Zoo: The Amazing True Story of a Young Family, a Broken Down Zoo, and the 200 Wild Animals that Changed Their Lives Forever by Benjamin Mee looked to be the most interesting story after I saw the cast of the movie on a morning talk show. I just knew that I had to read the book and then see the movie. I put it on my must read list from the library and it came in for me to finish just in time since I added the movie to my Christmas wish list :)
I hate to spoil the book (or the movie) for people but most of the information is in the description of the book on the back. A family from London sells their flat and moves to rural France where he is designing a French farm/barn into a family home while writting for different magazines and trying to work on a book about animals. Through his sister, he finds out about a zoo for sale and decides that they should do it. The book goes through the whole process that they try to buy the zoo and open it to the public. It also talks about the family dynamics during the whole process which is really hard to even imagine going through his brother not wanting to be involved, his wife dying and the joys of raising kids while running a zoo!!! It will make you laugh and cry which is the sign of a great book and a great author.
I hope that you check out the book at your local library or bookstore. I don't think that anyone will be disappointed in the heartwarming story of a family who decides to buy a zoo and all that comes with it. The whole time remembering that this is a true story really puts life in perspective and I hope that you are motivated to read it too!!
