The Newcomer Book Review

The Newcomer (Thunder Point) by Robyn Carr finally came in off reserve at the library and I was excited when I got to read it.  I sort of forgot which characters this book series was about but then I picked it up and instantly remembered with the first page and I was immediately engrossed.

In this book, Mac McCain and Gina James have now turned their long term friendship with each other into a relationship that neither can live without but both of their families are turned on end by family turmoil.  Mac's long lost ex-wife comes into town to reconnect with her family after 10 years.  She wants to meet the children and get to know them again after having coming to the realization that she was missing her family.  Mac agrees to do so with lawyers present and all of the children decide after a few minutes that they don't really want to be around her anymore.  Gina is going through things at the same time with her teenage daughter, Ashley, going into a severe depression after the break up a year long relationship with her boyfriend.  Her boyfriend, Downy, went off to college and found another girl who becomes jealous and sends a doctored naked picture of Ashley to all of the contacts in his phone and posted it to facebook.  The depression got worse and her daughter was eventually hospitalized.  Both are working together to get their family through the crisis and come out even stronger on the other side.

Some other favorite characters include Hank Cooper, owner of the newly remodeled bar and grill in town and Sarah Dupre, his Coast Guard Helicopter pilot  girlfriend and her brother, Landon.  Sarah is dealing with the possibilty of getting new orders that would transfer her to the east coast which would mean uprooting her happy brother in his senior year of high school and leaving the love of her life.  Landon is dealing with his senior year with his coach retiring without the idea that there would be a good coach to get him noticed to get a college scholarship that he so desperately needs to attend college.  Cooper was called to the death bed of his ex-finance to find out that he has a son and has to break the news to Sarah.  They all work together to attack each obstacle and make it through to the other side.

I love the books by Robyn Carr and love to see how the characters change over the series.  My biggest problem is how long it is before the next book in the series comes out because I have read most of the series that she has already published.  I have the next book on hold so I am going to cross my fingers that I am entertained by the millions of other books on my list before them because I am 101 out of 154 holds currently at the library.  I was excited to read this and sad when it was over.  I hope that you pick this up at your local library or book store.  You will be entertained by the characters and getting to know everyone in the town of Thunder Point.
