Games with Books Review

Games With Books: Twenty-eight of the Best Children's books and How to Use Them to Help Your Child Learn-From Preschool to Third Grade by Peggy Kaye was on display at the library.  I decided that it sounded exactly what I was looking for so I picked it up.

The book suggested 28 books with a variety of activities based on each one.  Each book and activity was a great suggestion and there were even ideas on what would be best for each age group.  There were some books that we already had like The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins (Classic Seuss) by Dr. Seuss, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street by Dr. Seuss, Katy No-Pocket (Sandpiper) by H. A. Rey, and Blueberries for Sal (Puffin Storytime)by Robert McCloskey which I pulled out to read in the future when we needed our next activity.  I kept a list of the other books so that I could pick them up later at the library.  I can't wait to check out a bunch of them when I can prepare some of the activities for us to do to follow up after reading.

My first one that we read was Martha Blah Blah and here is a link to the post with the activities that we did.  It was great and my son had a blast.  I think that we could do a great job reading a book and doing an activity everyday if I had enough time to plan the day before.  It is a lot of work to have everything ready and activities planned but it is well worth it. This was a good book with lots of information that the kids would enjoy reading and enjoy all of the alphabet crafts after you are done!

I hope that you check this out at your local library or bookstore and see what you think.  If you are looking for something to advance your interactions with books to give your little ones more understanding, this is a great book for you.  I enjoyed reading it and took lots of notes.  I enjoyed the few activities that I have tried and look forward to working a few into our school year as it starts.  Let me know what you think when you check it out!
